About

Still Rejoined is a digital fanzine dedicated to celebrating Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “Rejoined”, in time for the 25th anniversary of its first airing date. With this zine we aim to show how much this episode has meant and still means to LGBT+ Star Trek fans, and how relevant it still is more than two decades later.

The zine is non-profit, and all proceeds will be donated to the US-based Black Trans orgs and groups listed on this page (to highlight a few: Okra Project/Tony McDade and Nina Pop Mental Health Fund, Black LGBTQIA Migrant Project, Marsha P. Johnson Institute, Black & Pink Bail Fund).

The zine is currently available to purchase and download on our itch.io page!

FAQ

How much will the zine cost?
This is a not for profit zine. We’re planning to make the zine available on a ‘pay what you want’ basis with a small minimum price, and all proceeds will be donated to the US-based Black Trans orgs and groups listed on this page.

Where can I buy the zine?
We sell the zine through itch.io, our page is here!

Can I get a physical copy of the zine?
No, only a digital version will be available to purchase on itch.io. If you purchase the zine you can, however, print out a copy for your personal use. If you do so let us know about the results on social media!

Can I pre-order the zine?
Preorders are now closed but you can still buy our zine on itch.io.

When will the zine be available?
The zine will be available on October 30th, 2020, on the 25th anniversary of the airing date of “Rejoined”.

What kind of content will the zine include?
The zine will feature works from 34 contributors, including illustrations (both digital and traditional), comics, fanfiction and non-fiction writing, all on the subject of “Rejoined” and Dax/Kahn.

How will contributors be compensated?
Contributors will be listed in the zine (along with their social media handles) and will receive a copy of the zine.

I’m a contributor, and I was wondering if there’s an embargo period for the zine?
We ask you not to distribute online the full work that appears in the zine for one month after publication date. Once the embargo elapses, you can post your contribution online and/or sell prints, stickers etc of your own art (we’d appreciate it if you note that your work originally appeared in the zine!).

Can I post a preview of my contribution on social media?
You can still post previews of your zine piece on social media before the embargo elapses, as long as it’s a third or less than your entire artwork, or no more than two paragraphs of your written work. If you decide to post a preview on social media feel free to tag @rejoinedzine on twitter, tumblr and instagram!

I have a question that wasn’t answered in the FAQ.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected], or at our Tumblr and Twitter.

A new, finished piece Centering the events of Rejoined, the ship Jadzia/Lenara and/or Dax/Kahn (this means your work can also be about Torias Dax and Nilani Kahn, as well as Ezri/Lenara)PG-13 content only. We’d like teenage fans to be able to read this zine, so keep that in mind while drawing and writing. We reserve the right to reject any work we deem homophobic, transphobic or racist. If you have doubts about whether or not we’d consider your work within acceptable boundaries, feel free to contact us via email or on social media.

I fell headfirst into the Star Trek hole in 2017 and I'm still here. DS9 and Jadzia Dax own my heart, and this project is one of the ways I've been showing my love for this character and the show she was in.
You can find me on tumblr.

Writing previews

In her quarters, Dax stares at the blank, blinking screen of her PADD, willing the right words to just magically appear. She’s never been much for correspondence, but this is… different. Important.
Dear Nilani, she begins, and immediately groans and tugs a hand through her hair in irritation. Nilani is dead and gone. So is Torias, for that matter. With both parties dead, their marriage is over.
But she still feels the strings pulling her toward Lenara. Pulling Jadzia toward Lenara. It’s harder, she realizes, then just letting go of an old flame. The fire she feels now is new, a searing heat rather than rekindled embers. The pain she feels is new, too.
She feels separated from herself. Dax knows what it is to lose Kahn, but Jadzia’s experiencing it for the first time.
Dear Lenara, she writes. The station feels quieter without you.

@ensignro

There was a ritual for everything, Lenara thought, somewhat sourly. There had to be, when one needed to balance countless identities and histories and still find time to call themselves an individual.

So, dutifully, she arranged her communication screen at her desk, set aside the journal she had been reading, and then tugged at the fastener on her tunic collar, eager to get this whole thing over with. She exposed the skin where the symbiont was visible, residing within her chest, reddish nerve-endings clasping at sensitive points throughout her pleural cavity. Those would be disconnected, soon enough; it would not matter.
